continuing on with my haphazard review of the recent one-day elders school..... in one of the introductory talks, the co was making the point that we can't view things merely from a black and white perspective.
many issues have "shades of gray" and we need to use discernment in such situations.. and i'm thinking "finally!
maybe he will continue on to make an actual, reasonable point!".

had a short, cuz i cut it off, conversation about mormons today.
she claims to be one.
before i knew she was my big mouth called it a cult.
This is an oversimplification, but a good rough guide, IMO.
Put religions on a scale of cultyness from 1-10.
1= Unitarian universalists who allow ANYONE, who believes (or doesn't believe) ANYTHING to join them, atheists included.
10 = Jim Jones' Peoples Temple with literal poison Kool-Aid and one guy saying he is God.
On this scale I'd say cultyness starts to kick in from 5 on up.
Mormons & 7th Day Adventists: 6
Jehovah's Witnesses: 7
Scientologists: 8.5
David Koresh and the Branch Davidians: 9
Just my $.02. My numbers are completely subjective of course.

jw leaks has published the latest court documents, in pdf, relating to "candace conti v the watchtower bible and tract society of new york" as filed on november 16, 2012.. the watchtower society motion to substitute or reduce bond on appeal is denied.. www.jwleaks.org.

Oh man, just think of all those "dedicated funds" that will now be going to waste defending the WT against Jehovah's enemies!
So sad.

was a jw for 40 years.
stopped attending 2010...resigned officially in 2011. still a little shell shocked but beginning to feel much better now.
awesome revelation....people in the world are not all that bad.
Welcome to "The World' Arrakis1!
The Watchtower was correct in saying that outside the JWs the landscape is parched and devoid of life-giving "waters of truth".
Just make sure you've got a properly fitted "still suit" and you'll do fine.

i'm flyin' high right about now !
my san francisco giants came back beat cincinnati 3 games to 2 after being down 2-0 and tonight they came back and beat st. louis 4 games to 3 after being down 3-1 !
and we had tornados in northern california in a powerful storm while this was going down tonight !
Uh, jam, "Giants all the way, 4-1."
You've got 15 minutes to change that to:
Giants all the way, 4-0.
Clock's ticking.

@ finallysomepride:
Couldn't agree more. (With one teeny correction, there is one Canadian MLB team, the Toronto Blue Jays, but your point is still a very good one.)
Even worse, IMO, is the NFL. The Super Bowl winners call themselves the "World Champions", and there isn't a SINGLE non-USA team.
OK, back to flipper's thread.
I'm with the GIANTS!!!!
I know it was a super-duper long shot that the A's made it as far as they did, but I REALLY wanted to see another Bay Bridge Series this year. (Even if it caused another earthquake.)

You're my JWN hero!

p.s. Well, one of several JWN heroes.
i recently registered to vote in california and will be going to the polls on election day to experience what many americans do as soon as they turn 18. i could mail in my ballot, but i want to check the whole scene in-person.. .
i posted this info on another forum recently and have been told that i'm as good as da'd if i'm discovered.
i'd like to pose this question here since jwn gets much more traffic.
Thanks for all the replies so far. Good advice from Blondie, "Don't listen to 2nd hand, 3rd hand stories."
So far it looks like we've just got one 3rd hand story via MC Rubber Mallet.
@ leavingwt, you've stated quite clearly on this thread and on the other site that a U.S. JW who votes is a in line for a slam dunk DF. Is this just your own opinion or do you have something in writing or personal experience to substantiate it?
I'm not saying my opinion is necessarily right. All my current opinion is based on is my read of the 1999 QFR.
